Queensferry CP School is situated within the Queensferry Learning Campus, alongside Ty Calon community hub, Hwb Cyfle adult day centre and Plas Derwen pupil referral unit. The school has been at the heart of the community for more than 120 years and on its current site since 1996 with a refurbishment including new school hall completed in 2021. Duties include:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed PE Apprentice to join our friendly and successful primary school team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys sport and physical activity and wants to inspire children by being a positive sporting role model.
In this role, you will help organise and deliver fun, safe Health and Wellbeing sessions, including PE lessons and activities that promote both physical and mental health. You will support pupils in understanding the importance of staying active and looking after their wellbeing. You will also have opportunities to lead extra activities for small groups of pupils, as well as work as a teaching assistant within the classroom.
You will be supported by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), teachers, and support staff in planning and delivering sessions. In addition, Achieve More will provide extra training opportunities during your time at Ysgol Bryn Deva and Queensferry CP.
Essential Criteria:
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver PE and Health and Wellbeing sessions for pupils of different ages.
- Encourage and motivate all pupils, regardless of ability, to take part in physical activities.
- Lead small group enrichment activities, outdoor learning, team-building
- Help organise and run lunchtime and after-school sports clubs.
- Support pupils in developing their numeracy skills.
- Support pupils in developing their literacy skills.
- Support pupils in developing their digital skills.
- Support creative activities and learning through play.
- Provide support for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
We want someone who:
- Be a positive and inspiring sporting role model for pupils.
- Show confidence and initiative when planning PE and Health and Wellbeing sessions.
- Work effectively with and organise support staff to help deliver PE and sports sessions.
- Plan and lead safe, fun activities for small groups during playtimes, lunchtimes, and after-school clubs (e.g. dance, aerobics, or sports skills).
- Be flexible and adaptable in your approach to working with pupils and staff.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience working with young people in a coaching or educational setting
- Strong sporting background
- Good organisational skills
- Strong communication skills
30 hrs per week - 3 days in Ysgol Bryn Deva, 2 days in Queensferry CP School.
As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:
- On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school setting.
- Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development, and learning strategies.
- Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
- Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
