Job Description
The Wrexham AFC Foundation is the official charity arm of Wrexham A.F.C. Its mission is to use the power of football and the club’s profile to improve the lives of children, young people, and local communities across Wrexham and North Wales.
In practice, the Foundation delivers programmes focused on:
- Health and wellbeing – encouraging physical activity, mental wellbeing, and healthier lifestyles.
- Education and skills – supporting schools, coaching, leadership development, and employability opportunities.
- Inclusion and equal opportunities – engaging disadvantaged or underrepresented groups, including young people facing social or economic challenges.
- Community development – creating safer, more connected communities through football, sport, and youth engagement activities.
The Foundation also runs initiatives such as:
- school and holiday football programmes,
- youth leadership and mentoring schemes,
- community pitch regeneration projects,
- anti-social behaviour prevention activities,
- and inclusive sport sessions for people who may otherwise feel excluded.
Duties include:
Kickstart your career in sport and education with the Wrexham AFC PE and School Sport Apprenticeship Scheme. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience delivering PE and sport development across a variety of programmes, while earning and working towards recognised qualifications. Opportunities include the chance to contribute to a variety of impactful programmes delivered by the Wrexham AFC Foundation, including Street Dragons, Ability Dragons, women and girls’ participation initiatives, and school-based roles in partnership schools, giving you a broad, real-world foundation to build your future in the industry.
1 x Women & Girls Apprentice
1 x Street Dragons Apprentice
1 x Ability Dragons Apprentice
2 x Education Apprentice
Apprentices will plan, deliver and review sessions, whilst also contributing to planning, delivering and reviewing whole programmes too:
- Will be a great sporting role-model for our children.
- Can organise and run safe and enjoyable sessions
- Will be able to support Coaches/Teachers while they deliver PE lessons or Community acivities.
- Can organise and run sport and fitness sessions for target groups.
- You will be expected to organise and lead activities, making sure that participants are safe, happy and enjoying developing new skill
Essential Criteria:
Strong sporting background.
- Experience of coaching/working with children.
- Good organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the Wrexham region.
- Level 2 sport coaching qualified (Training can be completed through induction).
Desirable Criteria:
- Welsh Speaker
- Access to own car
- GCSE Level C and above (English and Maths)
As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:
- On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school setting.
- Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development, and learning strategies.
- Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
- Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
