Hours: 30 hrs per week
Contract: Full Time - Term Time
Salary: £8.60p.h

Hafod y Wern Community Primary School is situated in the heart of the Caia Park Community. The Caia Park estate is part of the Queensway and Caia Park wards. According to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation, the Queensway ward of Caia Park one of the 100 most deprived areas in Wales: the 5 wards that make up the Caia Park community, of which the school serves, are Cartrefle, Queensway, Smithfield, Whitegate and Wynnstay. Duties include:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our friendly and successful primary school. You will be working within the Early Years department within this school.

As a teaching assistant you will support teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.

Job roles will include:

  • Working within a primary school full-time as a Teaching Assistant
  • Supporting pupils with their numeracy
  • Supporting pupils with their literacy
  • Supporting pupils with their ICT skills
  • Supporting pupils with their digital skills
  • Supporting creative and play to learn activities
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs (ALN)
  • Supporting pupils with the above needs on a 1-to-1 basis
  • Be involved in displays and preparing resources
  • Helping children who need extra support to complete tasks
  • Understand the safeguarding and behaviour policy and their role within these policies
  • Working with children within Early Years
  • Supporting a teacher in various roles within the classroom
  • Ability to always conduct yourself in a professional manner

  • An eagerness to learn more about becoming a Teaching Assistant
  • A passion for working with children
  • Possess relevant qualities including patience and communication
  • Ability to listen and learn from more experienced staff
  • Any previous experience working with children
  • Any previous experience with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Strong English & Mathematics
  • Communicational skills relevant to both children and adults
  • Competent skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT
  • Ability to self-manage and organise own time

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience working with young people
  • Good organisational skills

As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:

  • On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school setting.
  • Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development, and learning strategies.
  • Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
  • Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
