Job Description
Location: Gwella Sports Development Team
Subject: Sports Coaching Apprentice
Hours: 20hrs per week
Salary: £8.60p.h
Working for Gwella Leisure as a Sport Development apprentice. You will have the chance to gain experience supporting senior development managers with initiatives to increase participation in sport such as
- The Daily Mile
- Dragon Sport
- Community Engagement Sessions
- Place based community support
- Extra-Curricular and Community Coaching sessions
- Disability Sport
Duties include:
We want someone who:
- Has a driving license and has access to transport.
- Will be a great sporting role-model for children.
- Can organise and run safe and enjoyable activities.
- Will be able to support our staff in the delivery of physical activity.
- Can support organisation of and coordination of sport and fitness events.
- Have a ‘physical literacy’ approach, making sure that pupils are safe, happy and enjoying developing new skills.
Essential Criteria:
Minimum A*-C GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Level 2 Coaching Certificate / Equivalent
Desirable Criteria:
- Level 2 sport coaching qualification or equivalent.
- Strong sporting background.
- Experience of coaching/working with children.
- Good organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills.
As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:
- On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a the setting.
- Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management and learning strategies.
- Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
- Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
