The ILM NVQ Level 5 has had an enormous impact on my teaching career during the past 24 months. The course has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of educational strategies, curriculum development and effective teaching practices. This has benefited my own teaching styles and positively impacted on the students in my learning environment.

During my time on the course, I underwent a change of role from a Primary School Leader to lecturing in the FE sector. The qualification not only supported my transition to FE but allowed me to compare and contrast the practices used within different education settings.

Additionally, the qualification process has helped build confidence in my ability to handle complex situations and make informed decisions. It enabled me to network amongst new colleagues, learning and gaining valuable insights from experienced leaders within the FE sector.

Furthermore, it has supported my development as a reflective practitioner. I am continually reflecting upon my own practice and that of my colleagues in order to seek ways to improve. I have had to evaluate decisions both inside and outside of the classroom, which has broadened my knowledge and strengthened my practice.

Finally, the support I received from my assessor was outstanding. Starting a new job can be daunting and doing so whilst undertaking this kind of qualification may have been unmanageable in some cases but, Gaynor provided thorough and extensive support, enabling me to complete assignments at a manageable pace and effectively reduced the pressure I faced.
