Job Description
Alun School is a co-educational comprehensive situated in the county town of Mold, Flintshire. The school roll is comprised of 250 students in each of the Years 7 to 11, together with almost 350 students in the sixth form. Alun School has an enviable record of academic success achieved with a fully comprehensive intake. The school provides a high standard of facilities, including a sports centre with swimming pool, large playing fields and all-weather pitch, excellent expressive arts studios, modern design technology workshops and extensive ICT facilities, as well as a well-resourced school library.
Duties include:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both inside and outside the classroom. Your role will be vital in ensuring that all students feel supported, engaged, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working full-time within a secondary school setting as a Teaching Assistant
- Supporting pupils with numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills
- Assisting children who need extra support to complete tasks
- Contributing to classroom displays and preparation of learning resources
- Working alongside teachers to support delivery of lessons
- Supporting children both in and out of the classroom
- Upholding the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies
- Working with students aged 11 to 16 in a professional and respectful manner

As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:
- On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school setting.
- Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development, and learning strategies.
- Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
- Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
