Hours: 31
Salary: £8.60 P/H

The Governing Body are seeking to appoint enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated professional to work at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd.

Candidates are required to be flexible and adaptable, being required to meet the needs of pupils between the ages of 11 – 19 with a wide range of needs, including autism, severe and complex learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties. This post is for 31 hours per week, term time only plus five training days.

As this post will result in you having substantial contact with children, successful applicants will be subject to a Disclosure and Baring Service check. 

As a teaching assistant you would support teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.

Duties include:

  • Working under the instruction and guidance of teaching and senior staff to enable access to learning for pupils with behavioral and special needs problems and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom or outside the main teaching area
  • Support learners with their language and literacy skills
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs (ALN)
  • Supporting pupils with their numeracy, literacy and ICT skills
  • Support children in the various areas within the class
  • Understand the safeguarding and behavior policy and their role within these policies
  • Promote the Welsh culture
  • Working with children aged 11 to 19
  • Supporting a teacher in various roles within the classroom
  • Ability to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all time whilst working in schools

Essential Criteria:

  • An eagerness to learn more about becoming a Teaching Assistant
  • A passion for working with children
  • Possess relevant qualities including patience and communication
  • Ability to show professionalism at all times
  • Ability to listen and learn from more experienced staff

Desirable Criteria:

  • Any previous experience working with children
  • Any previous experience with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Communicational skills relevant to both children and adults
  • Competent skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT
  • Ability to self-manage and organize own time
  • Personal qualities
  • Reliable
  • Smart appearance
  • Professional attitude
  • A level of maturity with working in a school environment will be required
  • Desire to be a positive role model to young people
Training:
The Apprenticeship includes both on-the- job learning and off-the-job training which leads to nationally recognised qualifications
Qualifications
Minimum A*-C GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Apprenticeships To Be Undertaken:
Level 2 NVQ Supporting, Teaching and Learning / Level 3 NVQ specialist support for Supporting, Teaching and Learning
